World Servants

World Servants, a worldwide, multi-cultural, interdenominational organization, has been operating for more than twenty years. We go as learners, listeners and with servant hearts, open to what God has prepared for us.  Our hope is upon returning home participants will be open to continuing to serve people in need.

World Servants serves as an agent of change by developing people as servants and leaders. Through a global network of partners and indigenous leaders, World Servants works with diverse communities throughout the world by developing and equipping leaders committed to impacting the world through Jesus Christ.   As a result, we see powerful demonstrations of reconciliation, healing and renewed hope for individuals, congregations, organizations and communities.

Mission participants are challenged and developed through learner-driven cross-cultural training and dynamic short-term mission projects.  These projects have a long-term impact both on volunteer participants and local communities while assisting these communities to become self-sustaining and interdependent.  As people develop as servants and leaders they take servant hood into all areas of life:  business, family, community, congregations, government and international relationships.

As much as possible, we seek to design the service aspects of the trip to fit the skills and interests of our trip participants.  However, all trip participants are asked to remain flexible and open to the opportunities for "being" and "doing" provided by the Spirit.

Why Are We Going?

The team will be working in partnership with Peru Hope.  The main purpose of Peru Hope is to improve the standard of living for families and communities that are in a state of extreme poverty and desertion with special emphasis on the welfare of children.  The Christian values Peru Hope promotes are fundamental for children’s personal development.  With World Servants working alongside to build a safe and adequate church/ community center they can continue to do the ministry they are doing and so much more.

Our Mission Partner and Host Community

World Servants is working alongside Peru Hope in the city of Huaycan, a suburb of Lima, Peru. Huaycan is home to thousands of immigrant settlers from different parts of Peru, looking to improve their standard of Living and job opportunities in the city of Lima.  It is one of the poorest neighborhoods of the capital of Peru.

The people living in Huaycan are hard-working, friendly and family-oriented.  The normal household income is less than $9000.00 a year.  Living conditions are simple, but challenging.  Most families live in one or two room houses made of handmade mud bricks/wood and thatched roofs with kitchens and latrines located outside.

Missional Engagement -- Activities on the Trip

Peru Hope will help World Servants lead outreach activities such as serving meals to children, working with the women on projects to help them improve their economic situation and we will also have a community gathering/meal at the end of the week to encourage the community.

In addition, the team will participate in experiential cross-cultural training, present Kids’ Club to elementary school students, attend a worship service in Huaycan and visit families to learn about life in urban Peru.

The team will be working to build the church/community center.  We will work alongside the community on tasks such as hauling sand, mixing concrete, carpentry, framing walls, and some agricultural planting to help families in Huaycan.

Food, Lodging, and Travel

All meals will be prepared for us. by local Peru Hope volunteers who understand the need for good, healthy meals.  The main diet consists of bread, potatoes, cornmeal, some beef and chicken, eggs, rice, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, beans, avocados, along with fresh pineapple, mango, bananas and papaya.  Clean, safe water will be available to the team at all times.

You’ll fly into Lima, Peru where World Servants will meet you and transport you to your lodging –We will be lodging at a Catholic center for holistic health in Huaycan. It is about 15 minutes from our Peru Hope project site. Dorm style rooms with beds, restrooms and cold water showers.

Day Off Activity

The team will spend the day visiting points of interest in Lima. We will plan to visit the beach, market and cultural city center.

If individuals are interested in extending their say they may want to consider adding on three days to take the trip to Machu Picchu.

Is it safe?

Trip safety is extremely important to World Servants and our host community. Huaycan is considered very safe and we do not anticipate any safety issues while in Peru.  Be assured, World Servants will not hesitate to cancel or suspend a trip if the situation on the ground warrants.
